What are adjustable lenses?

Adjustable lenses allow your ophthalmologist to improve your vision after cataract surgery (surgery that replaces a cloudy lens in your eye) using The Light Adjustable Lens™ from RxSight®.

This type of lens is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) that allows your specialist to tailor your vision after cataract surgery. You can review and compare possible vision outcomes with your ophthalmologist based on your personal preferences and lifestyle.

How do adjustable lenses work?

Light adjustable lenses allow your eye doctor to enhance your vision after lens implantation (cataract surgery) via painless light treatments that reshape the lens, delivering precise vision outcomes that non-adjustable intraocular lenses can’t provide. This procedure is customized to your unique vision needs.

Your ophthalmologist fine-tunes the lens power using precise UV light treatments, offering a highly individualized visual experience.

What are the benefits of light adjustable lenses?

Light adjustable lenses at the Center for Advanced Eye Care provide an array of benefits, including:

  • Fine-tuned, perfect vision
  • Precision
  • Customized results
  • LASIK-like accuracy
  • Better night vision
  • High patient-satisfaction rates
  • Reduced need to wear contacts or glasses

Light adjustable lenses can correct as low as 0.50 D of astigmatism — the lowest level approved for treatment. They allow your eye doctor to make customized adjustments to a lens based on your specific vision requirements.

Who is a candidate for adjustable lenses?

The Light Adjustable Lens and Light Delivery Device (LDD) system is approved for people who need surgery for a cataract, have corneal astigmatism, and don’t have preexisting macular disease.

These adjustable lenses should not be used if you take medications that increase sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light, require medicines that can damage your retina, or have a history of uncontrollable eye movements or herpes eye infections.

You must also be willing to attend scheduled light treatments and wear special UV protective glasses for a few weeks following cataract surgery.

What happens during light adjustable lens procedures?

Light adjustable lenses consist of photosensitive materials that change lens power in response to UV light.

You first undergo cataract removal and lens implantation. After cataract surgery, simply schedule ultraviolet light treatments to adjust the new lens. Your surgeon fine-tunes your near and far vision, optimizing your long-term results.
